The story

The story of Redstone AERO originates from an urgent market demand.
The aviation industry has lacked a proper homebase in Southern-Finland with nowhere for unscheduled air traffic and business to locate.

In 2017 a location was found in Pyhtää, in an E18 highway intersection only one hour east from Helsinki. The aerodrome property was acquired by Redstone and construction was launched in 2017. The Aerodrome was opened for flight operations later the same year.

The whole area was named Helsinki-East Aerodrome during the zoning process and it covers the aerodrome and the surrounding logistics area and technology park with a total of 300 hectares of property. Helsinki-East Aerodrome has already left a strong perception as the secondary airport of Helsinki.

The development of the project has been backed up by a strong public-private partnership. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has been a key partner in the first phases in addition to the Ministry of Economy and relevant government and regional agencies.

There is also increased pressure from the UAV sector and electric air traffic business to find proper infrastructure and test facilities. R&D, testing and prototyping as well as business development requires aerodrome infrastructure with free aerospace adding significant value for R&D activities. Business Finland and VTT in particular have endorsed the test center as Finland needs world class testbeds for business and industry growth.

Behind any successful venture, there is an entrepreneur - a man with strong vision. In the case of Redstone AERO, the main figure and driving force has been Esa Korjula, who is the founder and chairman of the company.
